Hi! – I’m Katie, and I am the person behind River Road Welding Caps. My husband is a pipeline welder here in Fort St. John and was always complaining about his welding caps not fitting the way he wanted. It was always too tight, too lose, or it didn’t cover his ears or his neck the way he needed. Always up for a challenge, I got to work sewing. I knew I could make something better than what he had, I just had to take the time to figure it out.
With a lot of trial and error, and his invaluable advice, we came up with ‘the perfect hat’. Before I knew it, word had spread, and my husband’s friends and coworkers were contacting me asking me to make them welding hats too. I figured I would start this small little side business just for fun and it has taken off beyond anything I could have imagined!
These hats are made for the person wearing them, and that’s what sets them apart from the typical hat you can buy off the internet or from a workwear store. I try my best to use locally owned stores to supply my little business, as keeping local is so important to me. Community supporting community… that’s what it’s all about. I haven’t lived in Fort St. John for very long (only one short year), but I’ve been visiting Fort St. John on a regular basis for the last four years prior to moving here. I’m so happy to be a part of the community and can’t wait to see what the future has in store!
