Once again, Fort St. John has been named the Best City for Work in the coming year by BC Business Magazine.
Fort St. John has beaten out fierce competitors like Dawson Creek and North Vancouver to be given the prestigious designation. In fact, it beat out all of the other 35 cities considered.
The title of Best City for Work in 2016 does not come lightly. It is awarded based on a variety factors.
According to BC Business, these include the following:
- Improvement in Household Income Over the Last 5 Years
- Average Household Income
- Average Household Income Under 35
- Percentage Change of Population Growth Over 5 Years
- Unemployment Rate
- Percentage of Households With University Degrees
Fort St John’s high ranking on these dimensions likely has a lot to do with its booming construction and Oil and Gas industries.
While global oil prices have taken a tumble recently, this relatively recent downturn has not been enough to knock Fort St John off of its prosperous trajectory.
According to BC Business, this ranking is meant to categorize the best places in BC to work AND live. This may explain why a city like Vancouver has fallen on the list, as its population has remained relatively stagnant, whereas Fort St. John’s has shot up over the past 5 years.
So if you are looking for a change of scenery, Fort St. John might just be the place for you, especially if you have the skills to help out with the building of the Site C Dam.
