Recently there have been urban deer management issues.
According to this factsheet there has been a growing concern about the safety of the deers as the number of conflicts with people, pets, automobiles, and predators has increased.
In order to manage these issues the Union of BC Municipalities have made two recommendations to the BC Government to form a ‘Provincial Urban Deer Advisory Committee’ to handle these issues. The BC Government has agreed to create these committee along with spending $100,000 in future urban deer management operations.
An initial meeting took place this past January where urban deer management issues were discussed in a workshop.
The workshop was used to discuss legislation, regulations, understanding policies, and increasing awareness about the best practices to manage deer that wander into the urban areas.
